Norfolkline's Logistics division wins values award from Tesco
Belfast, December 3rd 2009
Tesco have presented Norfolkline's Logistics division with a values award in recognition of their role in helping Tesco meet their environmental targets and reduce their carbon footprint by substantially reducing CO2 emissions.
Working with an Irish supplier Norfolkline have cut transportation costs for Tesco through innovations in refrigerated trailer design. In doing so Tesco's carbon footprint has been reduced by 158 tonnes of CO2 per year .
Shipping a range of bakery products for Tesco, Norfolkline Logistics showed that they could reduce annual vehicle trips by 40%, and increase vehicle fill by 66% using an innovative "Supercube" trailer.
In agreement with Tesco, Norfolkline demonstrated the concept with a trial trailer before ordering a fleet of the new trailers to service the business.
The Supercube concept does not require any modifications to dock levelers for loading or unloading as the trailers are equipped with a moveable bar system. This also allows the trailer to be used as a conventional trailer when required, providing even more flexibility for the customer.
