Norfolkline in it for the long haul

February 26th 2009

With the reinstatement of the Rosyth – Zeebrugge route this May, Norfolkline will provide freight customers with a package of benefits that includes greater freight capacity, fast loading times and refurbished port services.

The route will be serviced by the Scottish Viking, currently under construction in Italy. This brand new vessel boasts 2,250 lane metres and has guaranteed year-round capacity for over 110 trailers for commercial customers.

A new three lane loading design, combined with an advanced check-in system, will significantly enhance loading times, enabling a convenient check-in until16.00GMT in Scotland and 17.00CET in Zeebrugge.

Self drive vehicles will benefit from an even later check in time. An extensive refurbishment of the Zeebrugge Port will ease offloading in Belgium and, in Scotland, a new management team will be based in Rosyth, providing freight customers with a dedicated freight manager for every account.

Bas van Helden, Route Director of Scotland – Belgium service, Norfolkline, commented:

“This route is crucial for Scotland’s economy and we have undertaken serious research to ensure this route it is viable for both our passenger and freight markets. We are committed to this route and take a customer-centric approach to our business. On that basis, we are confident that not only will this route survive, but will hopefully also ultimately expand to provide a desperately needed daily freight service for Scotland to the continent.”

Norfolkline will conduct three sailings a week each way.

  • Departures from Rosyth will be at 17:00GMT on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving at 14:00 local time.
  • The service returns from Zeebrugge on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 18:00CET, arriving in Rosyth at 13:00 local time.
