The A.P. Moller - Maersk strategic approach
In the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, the environmental strategic ambition is to pursue energy efficiency in our daily operations, across all business units, and in the business opportunities we seek. This implies utilisation of natural resources in the best possible manner with the least impact on the environment.
We have named the strategy Eco-Efficiency.
The Group environmental strategy is the over-riding "umbrella" defining the scope and "borders" within which all environmental strategic articulations, actions and organisational behavior will have to be framed.
In view of that, we constantly aim to improve resource productivity in respect to energy, water and material. The strategy contains the aspiration to go beyond compliance in order to build competitive advantage through a systematic approach to identify potentials for more efficient use of resources, lower emissions and optimising cost.
We have a long tradition in our Group of using innovation to drive progress with environmental benefits as a pursued consequence. This has positioned us at the forefront when it comes to technological breakthroughs in a number of business areas. A position we aim to sustain, directly supported by the environmental strategy.
Certain business units may decide to transition into Eco-Advantage, with an aspiration to be recognised as an environmental leader and to create significant economic value through cutting-edge environmental initiatives and activities.
At this level, our efforts will create environmental and economic advantage for both the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group and our stakeholders.
Thus, the Eco-Efficiency strategy is expected to generate significant incremental economic value and enhance competitiveness through:
- Improving resource productivity (energy, water and material) and realisation of significant cost savings
- Cutting down environmental costs and regulatory burden
- Better managing environmentally driven business risk
Also it will enhance the Group’s reputation by being
- Better at responding to key customers’ requirements
- Better at retaining and attracting talents
- Better at accessing and collaborating with governments/regulators
